Furniture accessories: end caps, gliders, felts, and pads

First of all, let’s differentiate the types of protectors:

End caps: plastic or rubber covers for chair and table legs. They protect the floor from scratches or scuffs and reduce noise when moving furniture. They can be internal (made of rigid material that makes movement easier) or external (made of flexible material, with some non-slip function) on the furniture leg.

Felts: pieces of wool or synthetic fabric placed under furniture legs, designed to protect the floor from scratches or scuffs. They also reduce noise when dragging or moving furniture.

Gliders: small pieces placed at the base of heavy objects to move them with minimal effort. They come in various materials (plastic, felt, metal, or PTFE) depending on their use.

Pads: rubber plates that significantly reduce noise and cushion the vibrations of appliances. They are also ideal for protecting the floor when storing or handling heavy equipment. They can be used both indoors and outdoors.

Depending on the type of floor or surface, it is better to apply one type of protector or another:

  • On hard floors, it is advisable to use soft protectors and sliders, to avoid scratching the surface and especially to reduce noise.
Examples: cement, concrete, marble, granite, ceramic, tiles, wood, parquet, or laminate flooring.

  • On soft floors, on the other hand, it is better to use hard protectors and sliders to ensure that the furniture slides smoothly and effectively.
Examples: carpets, synthetic floors (vinyl, rubber coverings, linoleum, or cork).
